Fungi
~ a group of living things that reproduce from spores.
* different sizes: some are big enough to be seen by our naked eye ( example: mushroom ); others are micro-organisms that are so small that e can only see them under the microscope ( example: yeast )
~ They cannot make their own food and feed on living things dead or alive
~ Parts of a mushroom: cap, stalk, gills
~ reproduce by spores
~ grow well in moist (wet/damp) surroundings
~ NOT ALL grow best in warm surroundings. Some grow very well at very high temperatures & others at low temperatures
~ Can be useful to Man: help make bread & cheese
~ Can be harmful to man: poisonous & cannot be eaten. we can fall sick/ die if we eat them
Bacteria
~ a group of living things so small that they can only be seen under a microscope, i.e ALL bacteria are micro-organisms
~ They cannot make their own food and feed on living things dead or alive
~ reproduce by division/ dividing themselves into 2
~ grow best in warm & moist (wet) surroundings
~ Can be useful to Man: help turn milk into yoghurt
~ Can be harmful to man: cause illness such as sore throat, diarrhoea & tooth decay
